JEWELLERY
General tips
- Store each piece of jewellery separately in the packaging it came in, in jewellery pouches or in a lined jewellery box to avoid chains getting tangled, jewellery tarnishing from exposure to air or gemstones scratching other gemstones or metals.
- Remove your jewellery when washing your hands, and allow any perfumes, body creams oils, deodorants and hairsprays to dry before putting on your jewellery. These can damage and discolour the surface of your jewellery.
- Don’t expose your jewellery to any household cleaners or chemicals. These could also damage and discolour the surface of your jewellery.
- Avoid contact with hard or rough surfaces when wearing your jewellery. Avoid carrying heavy bags or cumbersome items when wearing delicate rings or bracelets.
- Be careful removing clothes while wearing rings and bracelets, particularly in winter when you are regularly removing layers of sweaters and coat - both for protection of your jewellery and your clothes!
- Don’t store your jewellery in direct sunlight or other extreme temperatures as this may damage it.
- Check your jewellery regularly for any wear and tear – check necklace clasps are still secure and any stones which are set in rings or pendants. It’s better to fix something before it breaks or you lose a stone.
Specialist Tips
Silver
Silver can tarnish (turn dull or grey) over time if unworn or stored against other items of jewellery. If you store silver in plastic bags, it will be less prone to tarnish. You can take away tarnish with a non-abrasive silver polishing cloth or liquid silver dip, although we would recommend you only use silver dip occasionally. Full instructions for use will be given on the packaging.
Gold Vermeil (Gold Plating)
Some of our pieces are solid silver with a 22 carat gold or rose gold plated finish. This process is achieved by microns of gold being fused to the surface of the silver. Gold plating can – if looked after correctly – last a long period of time. However, unlike solid gold, you should not wear gold vermeil jewellery when swimming or bathing, and always remove jewellery before applying creams or lotions, and allow perfumes, hairsprays and other everyday chemicals to dry before putting on your gold plated jewellery. If you do use gold vermeil jewellery every day, the gold plating may wear with time, but you can simply have your jewellery replated.
Pearls
Always put pearl jewellery on last – after any creams, lotions, perfume or hairsprays have dried and after you have put on your make-up. Avoid getting your pearls wet too.
When you remove your pearl jewellery, wipe it with a damp lint-free cloth to remove any surface dirt and gently polish the pearls. When clean, allow your pearls to air dry.
Store strings of pearls and pearl jewellery in a soft bag. If you wear a string of pearls regularly, consider getting them re-strung every year or two..
Gemstone Jewellery
Remember that stones may seem hard, but can crack and break if they hit another surface too hard, or drop on the floor.
Check your set jewellery to ensure that stones mounted in rings are not loose or rattle - if that's the case, visit your local jeweller before it's too late - it's much cheaper to have the prongs repaired than to replace a gemstone. Don't forget that the prongs of a ring can and do wear down. If the prongs wear down too much or break, you've lost the stone. Prongs are easily "retipped" by most jewellers to keep the stone secure.

RETURNS INFORMATION
IN-STORE PURCHASES
If for any reason you have changed your mind having taken your Gilda’s Tryst piece home, or if you have received a gift which is not quite right for you, we’re happy to offer an exchange within 14 days of purchase provided the item has not been worn and you have proof of purchase. We are able to exchange the item either for goods or gift vouchers of the same value. This period is extended for Christmas gifts, and you have until 10th January to return any unwanted Christmas gifts. This does not affect your statutory rights.
ONLINE PURCHASES
We hope you will covet and cherish your Gilda’s Tryst piece but if having received your goods you find it’s not quite what you expected, we’re happy for you to return it for either a refund or exchange. For UK customers we currently offer a free returns service.
UK Customers
Making a return is quick and easy. Just simply email returns@gildastryst.com for a return authorisation number (RAN) within 7 days of receipt of goods requesting whether you would like an exchange or a refund.
Write the RAN number on your original invoice and place it in the package which should be posted back via special delivery to the following address: Gilda’s Tryst, 71 Duke of York Square, London, SW3 4LY within 7 days of us issuing you with a RAN.
Before posting, please place items in the original packaging and ensure the outer box is completely sealed Once we have received and checked the goods have not been worn and are in satisfactory condition, we will refund the original purchaser’s card within 2 working days.
All returns for a particular order must be returned in one shipment. Any subsequent returns from the same order will incur additional shipping charges to you. We request that returns are shipped through Royal Mail Special Delivery. We do not accept liability for any goods lost or damaged.

Faulty & Damaged Goods
In order to return faulty items you must obtain a RAN by emailing us at returns@gildastryst.com and then follow the standard returns process as detailed above.
Faulty items will only be accepted if the goods are delivered to the customer damaged, or if there is a subsequent manufacturing fault within a period of 6 months after delivery. All items returned as faulty will be inspected, and any item displaying damage deemed to be a result of damage or fair wear and tear will not be accepted as faulty.
Where possible we will endeavour to repair faulty items.
Additionally, if your goods have been damaged or have experienced fair wear and tear, we are happy to investigate repairing this for you. There is a fee for this service, but we can estimate the cost and revert to you to allow you to decide whether you would like to proceed.

Gift Wrapping
We love giving and getting presents and want to make sure any gift you send from us is beautifully presented and a pleasure to open.
All our jewellery comes in a Gilda’s Tryst satin dust bag and is placed in a Gilda’s Tryst gift box which is lined with soft tissue and tied with cream chiffon ribbon.
Clutch Bags come in dust-bags, and are then wrapped in soft tissue and tied with cream chiffon ribbon.
If you write a gift message, we’ll send this on a Gilda’s Tryst card along with your gift.
For security, the outside box in which the product is shipped will be plain and unbranded.
